!MATERIAL

Definition of material physical properties

If a physical property is temperature-dependent, table input is possible for each corresponding temperature.

1st line

!MATERIAL, NAME=<name> [, optional parameter]
Parameter
NAME Material name (required)
ITEM Number of physical property items (optional; becomes "1" if omitted)
INPUT External file name (optional)
Parameter Name Parameter Value Description
NAME <name> Material name
ITEM <ITEMnum> Number of user-defined physical property items
INPUT <filename> External file name (optional); may also be used together with the 2nd and subsequent lines

2nd and subsequent lines

(2nd line) !ITEM=1, SUBITEM=<k>
(3rd line) VAL1-1-1, VAL1-1-2, … VAL1-1-k, TEMP1-1
(4th line) VAL1-2-1,VAL1-2-2, … VAL1-2-k, TEMP1-2
...

(Line L+2) VAL1-L-1,VAL1-L-2, … VAL1-L-k, TEMP1-L

Repeat the definition through !ITEM=<ITEMnum>.
Subparameter (for !ITEM)
SUBITEM Number of sub-property items defined for each physical property item
(optional; becomes "1" if omitted)
Subparameter Name Parameter Value Description
SUBITEM <subITEMnum> Number of user-defined sub-property items

【When the m-th physical property is temperature-dependent】

If the number of entries in the temperature-dependent table is N, enter them as follows:

!ITEM=m, SUBITEM=k
VALm1-1, ..., VALm1-k, TEMPm1
VALm2-1, ..., VALm2-k, TEMPm2
...
VALmN-1, ..., VALmN-k, TEMPm-N
Parameter Name Attribute Description
VALmn-k R Physical property value (temperature-dependent)
TEMPmn R Corresponding temperature

TEMPm1 < TEMPm2 < ... < TEMPmN must hold.

When the temperature is at or below TEMPm1, VALm1 is used; when it is at or above TEMPmN, VALmN is used.

【When the m-th physical property is not temperature-dependent】

!ITEM=m, SUBITEM=k
VALm1-1, ..., VALm1-k
VALm2-1, ..., VALm2-k
...
VALmN-1, ..., VALmN-k
Parameter Name Attribute Description
VALmn-k R Physical property value (not temperature-dependent)

Note:

  • An error occurs if material names are duplicated.
  • An error occurs if the MATERIAL referenced by the !SECTION option is not defined.
  • If physical properties are entered for each element using the MATITEM parameter of the !ELEMENT option, those values take precedence. In this case, the physical property values entered using the !MATERIAL option are not used.
  • An error occurs if the number of !ITEM=m suboptions is inconsistent with the number specified by the ITEM parameter, or if any suboption is undefined.
  • The !ITEM=m suboptions do not need to be ordered by increasing m.
  • When the !SUBITEM=k suboption and temperature dependence are used, omitted values become "0.0".
  • When temperature dependence is used, definitions must be given in ascending order of temperature.
  • When temperature dependence is used, an error occurs if the same temperature is used two or more times.

Example

!MATERIAL, NAME= STEEL, ITEM= 2
!ITEM=1 No temperature dependence
35.0
!ITEM=2
