Main Features and Supported Analyses¶
This section provides an overview of the analysis types and major features supported by FrontISTR. For details of the formulation, input methods, and options for each feature, see the function reference (including Analysis Types).
Supported Analysis Types¶
| Analysis type | Overview |
|---|---|
| Static analysis | Linear and nonlinear deformation/stress analysis (large deformation, contact, and nonlinear materials) |
| Dynamic analysis | Dynamic response analysis using implicit and explicit methods |
| Modal analysis | Calculation of natural frequencies and mode shapes |
| Frequency response analysis | Calculation of frequency response to excitation |
| Heat conduction analysis | Steady-state and transient heat conduction analysis |
Supported nonlinear materials include elastoplastic, hyperelastic, creep, and viscoelastic materials. See Analysis Types for details.
Parallel Computing¶
FrontISTR supports MPI (distributed-memory parallelism) and OpenMP (shared-memory parallelism), as well as hybrid parallelism combining both. This enables parallel computation appropriate to the problem size, from a single computer to large-scale supercomputers.
Solvers and Preconditioners¶
| Category | Supported methods |
|---|---|
| Iterative solvers | CG / BiCGSTAB / GMRES / GPBiCG |
| Direct solvers | MUMPS / MKL PARDISO |
| Preconditioners | SSOR / ILU(0) / AMG (Trilinos-ML), etc. |
For details on selection and configuration, see Linear Solvers.
Element Library¶
FrontISTR supports first- and second-order solid elements (tetrahedral TET, pentahedral PRISM, and hexahedral HEX), plane elements (triangular and quadrilateral), beam elements, shell elements, truss elements, and others. See Elements for details.
